This is my Chinon 1200 sm 8mm film camera, which is a really nice 8mm film camera producing excellent looking footage. Allthough abit grainy , but that's what 8mm is all about!

It was a fun project to do, trying to improve my hardbody-modeling skills aswell as increasing the level of realism of my work. I tried to give the image a "nostalgic look" to set the image apart from other "product renderings". I included some lens artifacts on the image, so that some of the highlights would color off and produce an rgb-offset effect to simulate as if the image had been taken with a bad lens.

Everything is polymodeled in max, rendered in vray and mental ray, all textures handpainted in photoshop (except texture on film-cartridge) and post done in Fusion5.

Image showing the wireframe of the scene, i spent a fair time modeling both sides of the camera, every part that was visible from the outside of the camera-body as well as internal parts of the lens.(click for biggie)

Alternative renderings of the camera was made aswell, most of the rendering done in mental ray, some combined with vray, all post in fusion5.

The image was also featured in 3d World magazine in Issue #80

I was also awarded a 3dtotal excellence award for the top image. And was able to demonstrate a fullblown multipass composite of the render at IBC2007 for eyeon.
